However, evidence on scalable and context-specific pathways for CSA adoption in smallholder systems remains limited, particularly regarding agroecological transitions. This study assesses agroecology as a pathway for scaling CSA and strengthening food system resilience in three communes of Benin (Dassa-Zoumè, Bohicon and Parakou), examining contributions to the three CSA pillars of adaptation, mitigation and productivity. A mixed-methods design combined a structured household survey (n = 210), semi-structured interviews with key informants (n = 32), and secondary agricultural and climate data (2010-2024). A composite resilience index was constructed using principal component analysis (PCA) to compare agroecological and conventional systems. Results show that agroecological farms achieve a 23% higher soil fertility index, a 31% higher resilience capacity, and a 17% reduction in yield variability under climate stress, relative to conventional systems. Crop diversification is 28% higher among agroecological producers, while dependence on synthetic inputs declines by up to 40%, improving system stability and adaptive capacity. Despite these benefits, scaling remains constrained by limited access to climate information services (reported by 35% of respondents), weak extension coverage (30%), and low access to climate finance (20%). The study concludes that agroecology provides a robust, evidence-based pathway for scaling CSA in Benin, and that strengthening digital climate services, extension systems and inclusive climate finance is critical to accelerate resilient and sustainable agricultural transformation in West Africa.","气候智慧型农业（Climate-Smart Agriculture, CSA）被广泛推广以应对撒哈拉以南非洲的粮食不安全、气候变异和环境退化问题。 ,null,"Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Journal","2026-10-01T00:00:00Z","论文",40,false,77
"https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23087821
"H6","biodiversity","生态保护与生物多样性","/topic/environment/biodiversity","H",[
"classified","2026-10-22.2","rules
49,57,64,72,79,85
"I1",11,[61],"smart agriculture",[61],[
"H2",6,[],[69,70],"土壤","soil",[
"G2",4,[],[77],"smallholder",[31
"W7215033617",[98
Maanzou Boukari",0
[112,183,286,378,459,512
4980,"Creating common ground: integrating transformative agroecology and extension research in undergraduate education","https://doi.org/10.3389/fsufs.2026.1882768","This paper examines the Agroecology Extension (AX) summer Research Fellowship at the University of Vermont, a 5-year USDA-funded undergraduate program that intentionally integrated extension research with agroecology education within a land-grant university context. Drawing on predominantly qualitative evaluation of five cohorts (2021–2025, n = 47), we identify enabling and constraining pedagogical factors for creating common ground between two domains that remain institutionally separated at most land-grant universities. The study contributes to the emerging signature pedagogy for sustainable food systems education by documenting how three interconnected pedagogical dynamics—integrating political agroecology with extension, centering equity as a sustained commitment, and supporting participatory knowledge co-creation with students—shaped program design and evolution across 5 years. Findings demonstrate that transformative education at the intersection of agroecology and extension requires explicit engagement with the political dimensions of agroecology and extension history, relational infrastructure for equity work, and deliberate structures for co-learning. This case study offers practical pedagogical insights for land-grant universities seeking to develop sustainable programs that bridge agroecology and extension while preparing graduates to address complex agricultural and food systems challenges.","本文考察了佛蒙特大学的农业生态学推广（Agroecology Extension, AX）暑期研究奖学金项目。 ,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems","2026-10-14T00:00:00Z",10,65
"W7221806502",[164,167,170,172
Karen L. This study investigates agroecological practices, perceived contributions, and determinants of adoption in the Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve (YCFBR), Southwest Ethiopia. A cross-sectional concurrent mixed-methods design was employed, combining 293 randomly selected households, complemented by key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations. Binary logistic regression identified determinants of adoption (extensive margin), while ordinal logistic regression examined adoption intensity using the Agroecological Adoption Index (AAI) (intensive margin). Number of Practices Adopted (NPA), Weighted Adoption Intensity (WAI), and Duration of Adoption (DUR) provided complementary insights into adoption breadth, intensity, and persistence. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically to contextualize quantitative findings. Results showed that 72% of households adopted at least one agroecological practice, including coffee agroforestry, homegarden agroforestry, soil and water conservation, climate-smart agriculture, intercropping, crop rotation, mixed tree planting, afforestation and reforestation, organic soil fertility management, and biological pest and disease management. Adoption intensity varied: 34.6% low, 41.2% moderate, and 24.2% high. Practices were perceived to improve soil fertility, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, forest management, and livelihood diversification while reducing pressure on natural forests and strengthening ecological connectivity and adaptive capacity. Sex, education, farm size, extension services, training, credit access, and cooperative membership significantly determined adoption and intensity, whereas age, household size, farming experience, and distance to forest were non-significant. Agroecology provides a multifunctional, context-specific pathway for advancing sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and livelihood resilience. Strengthening agroecology-oriented extension, gender-responsive training, access to finance, indigenous knowledge integration, and policy mainstreaming are essential for long-term environmental sustainability and community resilience in the YCFBR and comparable forest-dependent landscapes.","农业生态学为在生物多样性丰富的热带景观中协调森林保护与农村生计提供了一条有前景的路径，但关于其采用广度、强度及决定因素的实证证据仍然有限，尤其是在联合国教科文组织生物圈保护区中。 ,"Discover Environment","2026-10-08T00:00:00Z",73
"A7","forage-cropping","饲草与耕作制度","/topic/field-crops/forage-cropping","A
[219,226,234,240,244,250,254
[],[69,70],[
3,[],[248],"climate resilience",[
[],[61],[
"W7221057925",[266,269,272,275,277
Alemayehu Abera","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6225-9304
Samuel Taye","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9662-3939
Adanech Asfaw","https://orcid.org/0009-0007-2586-0559
Chaluma Kicha
Endashew Mogessie","https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s44274-026-01113-4.pdf
,"2026-10-10T23:30:11.538537Z
4528,"Integrating indigenous knowledge systems into regenerative agriculture for sustainable crop production in southern Africa","https://doi.org/10.1007/s43621-026-04926-8","Abstract Agricultural production in Southern Africa is increasingly constrained by climate variability, declining soil fertility, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and rising pest pressures, particularly within rain-fed smallholder farming systems. Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), developed through generations of interaction between communities and local agroecosystems, offer context-specific approaches that align closely with the principles of regenerative agriculture. This review synthesizes evidence from 37 publications examining the contribution of IKS to sustainable crop production across Southern Africa. Particular attention is given to soil health, soil biological activity, water-use efficiency, ecological pest regulation, crop productivity, and climate resilience. The synthesis demonstrates that indigenous regenerative practices, including organic soil amendments, residue retention, crop diversification, intercropping, agroforestry, water harvesting, and botanical pest management, improve soil organic carbon, enhance microbial activity, increase water retention, and stabilize yields under climatic stress. Evidence further indicates that indigenous pest management strategies frequently maintain pest populations below economic injury thresholds, thereby reducing dependence on synthetic pesticides while supporting ecosystem services. The review highlights the convergence between IKS, agroecology, integrated pest management, conservation agriculture, and regenerative agriculture, and proposes pathways for integrating indigenous ecological indicators into decision-support systems, crop models, and precision agriculture technologies. Despite growing recognition of indigenous knowledge within sustainability and climate adaptation agendas, significant gaps remain in quantitative validation, longitudinal assessment, and integration into formal agricultural research and policy frameworks. The findings demonstrate that Indigenous Knowledge Systems constitute a scientifically credible and economically viable foundation for regenerative agriculture and contribute directly to Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), and 15 (Life on Land). Strengthening the integration of indigenous and scientific knowledge systems will be essential for building resilient, productive, and sustainable agricultural systems across Southern Africa and the broader Global South.","摘要 南部非洲的农业生产日益受到气候变异性、土壤肥力下降、水资源短缺、生物多样性丧失和病虫害压力上升的制约，这在雨养小农耕作系统中尤为突出。 ,"Discover Sustainability",75
[313,319,324,329,334,338,344,348,354
[315],"regenerative agriculture",[302,317,315],"conservation agriculture",[302
"W7220943031",[368
Albert Thembinkosi Modi","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6887-1721
4488,"Harnessing Indigenous Knowledge for Climate-Smart Agri-Food Systems: A Review of Adaptation Strategies, Food Security, Ecosystem Services, Governance, and Digital Innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa","https://doi.org/10.3390/conservation6040120","Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) faces escalating climate challenges that threaten agricultural productivity, food security, ecosystem sustainability, and rural livelihoods. Indigenous knowledge (IK), developed through generations of interaction with local environments, offers context-specific and culturally embedded solutions for climate adaptation and resilient agri-food systems. This scoping review synthesizes evidence on the role of indigenous knowledge in advancing climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and resilient agri-food systems across SSA. Guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), the review analyzed 17 studies published between 2000 and 2026. The findings reveal that indigenous knowledge contributes significantly to climate resilience through traditional weather forecasting, crop diversification, indigenous seed preservation, agroforestry, water harvesting, soil fertility management, and community-based natural resource governance. These practices enhance food security, livelihood resilience, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem service provision while strengthening adaptive capacity among smallholder farmers. The review further highlights the importance of inclusive governance frameworks, knowledge co-production, and policy support for integrating indigenous knowledge into climate adaptation and agricultural development strategies. Emerging digital technologies and innovation platforms also present opportunities for documenting, preserving, and scaling indigenous agricultural knowledge. However, challenges related to weak policy recognition, inadequate documentation, knowledge erosion, and limited digital infrastructure continue to constrain its effective utilization. The study concludes that integrating indigenous knowledge with scientific innovation is essential for building inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient agri-food systems in SSA.","撒哈拉以南非洲（Sub-Saharan Africa, SSA）面临日益加剧的气候挑战，威胁着农业生产力、粮食安全、生态系统可持续性和农村生计。 ,"Conservation",76
[407,412,417,421,425,429,433
[409],"food security",[394,409],[394
[],[237,322,38,415],"ecosystem service",[
[],[332,248],[32
[],[31,77],[
[],[69,70],[
[],[61],[392
"W7220921430",[446,449
Adetomiwa Kolapo","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0808-1293
Wale Ayojimi","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0038-3462
,"2026-10-09T23:30:07.725864Z
4411,"Agroecology in West Africa: the pathway towards a sustainable transition of agri-food systems? Data were retrieved from Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar and grey literature. The 484 publications reviewed span the last 25 years, focusing primarily on West Africa, while selected studies from other regions were included where relevant to the analysis. Over the past two decades, agroecology has gained a growing interest in different scientific fields, and is increasingly discussed as an alternative approach to conventional agricultural models. The reviewed evidence suggests that several agroecological practices are rooted in local knowledge and may contribute to addressing some of the environmental and food-systems challenges facing the region. However, the nature and the magnitude of these contributions remain context-dependent and unevenly documented across the region. Existing studies point to potential benefits for agricultural resilience, food security and nutrition, biodiversity, socioeconomic viability, human values, but the available evidence remains insufficient to highlight the potential of agroecology for food systems transformation. Scaling up agroecology is further constrained by interrelated challenges, including limited training and advisory services, restricted access to inputs and markets, and policy support. In many regions, research on agroecology has covered only a limited range of topics, highlighting the need for more context-specific and multidimensional science. Future studies should investigate the conditions under which agroecological transitions are most likely to succeed, including the interactions among policy support, training, resource access, markets, and economic incentives. Greater attention is also needed to its socioeconomic viability and to the development of locally adapted advisory and support services.","本文综述了农业生态学在西非农食系统可持续转型中潜在贡献的研究现状。
"W7220841560",[500,502
Bernadin Djossou
Pascal Gbénou","https://orcid.org/0009-0003-8498-7390","https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/sustainable-food-systems/articles/10.3389/fsufs.2026.1893044/pdf
,"2026-10-08T23:30:07.324467Z
4034,"D1.5 – Policy recommendations","https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23082858","PrAEctiCe presents policy recommendations for advancing agroecology and climate-resilient food systems in East Africa.
