This Perspective examines how compounding global shocks propagate through a multi-level polycrisis, spanning macro-level geopolitical bottlenecks in transport logistics, energy, and fertilizer inputs; meso-level national trade dependencies; and micro-level smallholder and consumer vulnerabilities. Chile, a leading exporter of fresh produce, yet deeply dependent on imported agricultural inputs and staple commodities, serves as an illustrative case study of these cascading impacts. We demonstrate how consecutive disruptions, including 2019 social unrest, climate change, COVID-19, and recent geopolitical instability, exert cumulative stress on domestic food security, health, and small-scale farming.
