Differences in landforms, climate, soils, water resources, population, agriculture, infrastructure and economic activities have created uneven development opportunities. While some regions have experienced rapid urbanization, industrialization and improved connectivity, rural, remote and environmentally fragile areas continue to face developmental challenges. This paper examines sustainable and inclusive regional development under Viksit Bharat @2047 from a geographical perspective. It focuses on regional disparities, rural transformation, urbanization, agriculture, infrastructure, natural-resource management, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, digital inclusion and tourism. Special attention is given to GIS and Remote Sensing for understanding spatial patterns and supporting development planning. The study is based on secondary information from government publications, institutional reports, academic literature and development documents, using a descriptive and analytical approach. The study argues that a uniform development model may not address India’s regional diversity effectively. Development strategies should consider local resources, environmental conditions, population characteristics, connectivity and economic potential. Strengthening rural–urban linkages, improving infrastructure, promoting sustainable resource use and expanding digital access can help reduce regional inequalities.
