A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining focus group discussions and community consultations to capture local environmental conditions and adaptation contexts with a structured household survey of 251 respondents. The study identified a range of community-led NbS-CCA measures, including agroforestry, mangrove-based protection, aquaculture-related adaptations, and community-based water management interventions for cooking and drinking. These measures were evaluated using a multicriteria framework encompassing effectiveness, resource availability, accessibility, affordability, profitability, and perceived effects. The findings suggest that locally implemented NbS-CCA measures contribute to reducing vulnerability to SLR-related agricultural challenges while supporting livelihood resilience and adaptive capacity. However, the perceived performance of NbS-CCA measures varied across locations, highlighting the importance of local environmental conditions, resource availability, and livelihood contexts in shaping adaptation outcomes. The study demonstrates that community-driven NbS-CCA measures can serve as practical and locally relevant adaptation options in vulnerable coastal agroecosystems. Data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test seven hypotheses linking HBM constructs—perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, cues to action, and general beliefs—to willingness to adopt organic-related practices. The model explained 95.8% of the variance in willingness ( R 2 = 0.958); this unusually high value likely reflects construct overlap and common-source measurement and should be interpreted with caution rather than as evidence of correspondingly strong explanatory power. In a re-specified robustness model (higher-order perceived threat; removal of semantically mirrored and ambiguous items), perceived threat ( β = 0.339, p = 0.013) and general beliefs ( β = 0.204, p = 0.009) were the only significant predictors, while perceived benefits attenuated to non-significance ( β = 0.216, p = 0.097), and discriminant validity remained unsatisfactory (HTMT ≥ 0.956); construct-specific estimates should therefore be read as exploratory. In the baseline model, perceived benefits showed the largest coefficient ( β = 0.608, p \u003C 0.001, f 2 = 0.277), followed by general beliefs ( β = 0.193, p = 0.011); cues to action were not significant ( β = 0.078, p = 0.155). Furthermore, by integrating the SHAP explainable machine learning model framework, this study quantifies the multiscale driving contributions of climate, vegetation, and topographic factors to PUE and identifies the ecological thresholds of key factors. The results show that: (1) The spatial distribution of PUE exhibits a gradient pattern characterized by higher values in the northwest and lower values in the southeast. Interannual variations follow a three-phase pattern of “gradual increase, significant decline, and fluctuation at high levels,” with values ranging from 0.67 to 0.96 gC·m⁻²·mm⁻¹ . (2) Spatially, PUE is not only regulated by multiple individual factors, but the interactions among these factors further reinforce its patterns; temporally, PUE is jointly regulated by dynamic meteorological and vegetation factors, and key influencing factors exhibit significant nonlinear threshold responses. Adaptation strategies were widely adopted (86%), with irrigation and improved seed varieties being the most common. About 76% of respondents reported improved tomato yields and 72% reported increased household income following adaptation. A strong positive relationship was observed between adaptation strategies and tomato yields (r = 0.718, p \u003C 0.001), indicating that increased adoption of adaptation practices significantly enhanced production performance. Qualitative findings confirmed that adaptation improved resilience but highlighted financial constraints, limited irrigation infrastructure, and inadequate climate information as major barriers. However, resource constraints can limit how much knowledge participants retain. We examine how perceived resource constraint affects retention of four WSA practices (permanent mulching, responsible nutrient management, integrated armyworm management, and visual soil evaluation) six months to a year after FFS participation, drawing on cognitive load theory to explain why some practices are harder to acquire than others. Using multivariate probit regression on survey data from 507 beneficiaries who attended CRS farmer field schools in Guatemala’s Dry Corridor between 2020 and 2021, we find that retention declines as both the cognitive load of a practice and participants’ perceived resource constraints increase, though education levels partially offset the former’s effect. Retention is strongest for practices like permanent mulching that build on locally established methods, and weakest for more cognitively intensive practices targeting long-term soil quality, though land tenure improves retention of the latter. The study that sought to explore the experiences of local farmers on Climate Smart Agricultural Practices (CSA), identified challenges faced by farmers with a view to prescribing the most practicable solutions for adoption. Once local communal farmers get capacitated with modern Smart technologies, their level of productivity will be improved, thus positively impacting on their economic status. The study, which followed a mixed methods approach, used a sequential explanatory research design and established several factors contributing to farmers' inability to embrace advanced smart technologies. The study established that some communal farmers have partially adopted the pfumvudza\u002FIntwasa concept, drought tolerant cropping systems, diversification, smart irrigation systems and use of fodder banks for livestock especially during the off season periods. Use of smart irrigation systems, enhanced varietal participation and practice of water harvesting technologies have also been found to be partially adopted owing to a myriad of existing challenges. Considering the role and benefits from CSA practices, it is highly recommended that farmers in semi-arid regions need fully adopt the smart farming practices which have the capacity to improve both food security and economic viability. This exploratory, single-season, fixed-site field assessment compared adjacent plastic-house rain-shelter (PH) and open-field (PN) soil cultivation in the Pyeongchang highland area, Republic of Korea, during 0–62 days after transplanting (DAT). PH excluded direct rainfall and received 44.0 mm of controlled irrigation, whereas PN received 527.2 mm of gross water input, including 385.5 mm of July rainfall. PH had lower cumulative total shortwave radiation, slightly higher mean temperature, lower period-level relative humidity, and a higher calculated mean vapor pressure deficit than PN. At 62 DAT, PH showed greater shoot fresh weight and shoot, leaf, and root dry matter, while leaf fraction remained similar between systems. Area-based leaf dry matter, root-to-shoot ratio, and shoot dry-matter percentage also supported greater whole-plant vigor in PH. However, the cultivation systems were not independently replicated, baseline soil properties were unavailable, and soil-water status, leaf wetness, disease incidence, gas exchange, leaf area, and phytochemical quality were not measured. The observed contrast is therefore interpreted as an integrated system-level association rather than a causal effect of rainfall exclusion or any single microclimatic factor.
