This study examined the role of agricultural extension services in promoting CSA adoption among smallholder farmers in Mwingi West Sub-County, Kitui County, Kenya. A cross-sectional mixed-methods design was used. Quantitative data were collected from 200 randomly selected farmers through structured questionnaires, while qualitative evidence was obtained from 10 agricultural extension officers and 10 focus group discussions with farmer groups. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test of independence. Significant associations were reported between CSA adoption and access to agricultural extension services, the source of extension information, type of extension support received, frequency of extension contact, perceived usefulness of extension services, CSA practices promoted through extension, and farmers’ perceived influence of extension services on adoption. Most respondents (82.0%) had access to extension services. Extension agents were the main information source (46.0%), and technical training was the most frequently reported support (38.0%). Conservation agriculture (30.0%), agroforestry (22.0%), and water harvesting (19.0%) were the leading practices promoted through extension activities. Nearly half of respondents (48.0%) reported that extension services had increased CSA adoption to a great extent. The findings indicate that accessible, practical, and regular extension support is closely associated with CSA adoption in the study area.","农业推广服务为小农户提供知识、技术指导和咨询服务，有助于促进气候智能型农业（CSA）实践的采纳。 ,null,"Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension Economics & Sociology","2026-09-22T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,65
"W7213979623",[39,41,43,45,47
Simon Mbala
David Kawioo Mwanzia
Thomas Ekamais Akuja
Felix Ngunzo Kioli
Harrison Musyoka Maithya
6,[61,100,144,181,218,256
3059,"Climate Smart Agriculture and Food Security among Rural Farmers in Nasarawa State, Nigeria","https://doi.org/10.67317/ijmsrt26sep046","Climate change continues to threaten agricultural productivity and household food security, particularly among rural farmers who depend on rain-fed agriculture. Yet awareness of CSA does not necessarily translate into actual implementation, particularly where farmers face financial, technical and institutional constraints. This study examined the roles of climate experience, agricultural information and socioeconomic characteristics in CSA adoption among smallholder farmers in southwestern Nigeria. Primary data were obtained through a structured cross-sectional survey of 190 farmers in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. Descriptive statistics were used to characterise respondents and examine CSA awareness, agricultural information, experience of weather variability, willingness to adopt, reported adoption and perceived constraints. Because the adoption outcome was highly imbalanced, Firth-penalised logistic regression was used to identify factors independently associated with actual CSA adoption. The results show that 98.4% of respondents were aware of CSA and 96.3% reported experiencing changes in weather conditions. Although 96.3% expressed willingness to adopt CSA, 88.4% reported actual use, indicating an intention–implementation gap. Water-conservation technologies received the highest proportion of “very important” responses (83.7%), followed by organic manure (80.5%), drought-resistant crops (80.0%) and crop rotation (79.5%). Government extension officers were the principal reported source of agricultural information (55.3%). Implementation cost was the leading constraint (54.7%), followed by uncertainty about effectiveness (25.8%) and difficulty learning new techniques (19.5%). In the Firth model, experience of changing weather conditions was the only statistically significant predictor of adoption (OR = 10.401, 95% CI: 3.118–34.694, p < 0.001). Gender, education, farm size and extension information were not statistically significant. The findings indicate that CSA adoption in the study area is not adequately explained by awareness alone. Farmers’ direct experience of climatic variability appears to be an important stimulus for adaptation, while financial and technical constraints can restrict implementation. Climate adaptation policies should therefore move beyond general awareness creation towards practical extension, affordable inputs, locally relevant climate information and resource-supported implementation.","气候智慧型农业（climate-smart agriculture, CSA）日益被视为增强小农户耕作系统对气候变异性适应能力的手段。 ,"Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)","2026-09-18T00:00:00Z",25
"W7213578578",[126,128,130,132,134,136
Folasade J. In Masinga Sub-County, approximately 9,900 green gram farmers face erratic rainfall, droughts, and soil degradation, resulting in mean yields of only 460 kg/ha against a potential of 1.5 tons/ha. This study examined the socio-economic and institutional determinants, incentives, and constraints influencing CSA adoption. Anchored in the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Technology Acceptance Model, the study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires administered to 390 green gram farmers selected through stratified random sampling across the five wards of Masinga Sub-County. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics in SPSS Version 29. Results showed that 54.0% of respondents had adopted at least two CSA practices, with drought-resistant seed varieties (43.2%) and minimum tillage (42.4%) being the most common. The binary logistic regression model demonstrated a good fit (McFadden Pseudo R² = 0.395; overall classification accuracy = 80.4%) and identified significant positive predictors: access to input subsidies (OR = 2.33, p < 0.001), perceived government policy support (OR = 2.37, p = 0.002), annual household income (OR = 2.09, p = 0.006), and market linkages (OR = 1.74, p = 0.049). High input costs were the main significant barrier (OR = 0.42, p = 0.002). Thematic analysis confirmed infrastructure deficits, financial barriers, and awareness gaps as interconnected obstacles. The study findings provided valuable insights for the academic literature by addressing gaps in research on CSA adoption in semi-arid regions, particularly for drought-prone crops like green gram. Additionally, the study findings benefit policymakers by offering data-driven recommendations for designing and developing policies that enhance CSA adoption and sustainability in smallholder farming. Agricultural extension services and development organisations may use these findings to design targeted programmes that address key incentives and constraints. The study concluded that income level and access to input subsidies were the primary drivers of CSA adoption, while high input costs constituted the foremost structural barrier, with incentives and constraints each operating as integrated, mutually reinforcing systems rather than isolated factors.","气候智慧型农业（Climate-Smart Agriculture, CSA）在提升小农户生产力和气候韧性方面具有显著潜力。 ,"Journal of Experimental Agriculture International","2026-09-10T00:00:00Z",69
"W7212140110",[168,170,172
Anna Ndunge Mutinda
Martin Kagiki Njogu
Pauline Micheni Kananu","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1795-345X
,"2026-09-11T23:30:10.306285Z
3198,"Farm Budgeting and Gross Margin Analysis as Extension Tools for Promoting Commercial Agriculture among Smallholder Farmers in Zamfara State, Nigeria.","https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22870012","Abstract This study assessed farm budgeting and gross margin analysis as extension tools for promoting commercial agriculture among smallholder farmers in Zamfara State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined farmers' knowledge and use of farm budgeting and gross margin analysis, assessed the role of agricultural extension agents in promoting their application, determined the level of commercial agriculture participation, and examined the relationship between the use of the two tools and commercial agriculture participation. A multistage sampling procedure was used to select 241 smallholder farmers from four Local Government Areas. Data were collected through a structured, pre-tested interview schedule and analysed using descriptive statistics, farm budgeting, gross margin analysis, benefit-cost ratio, and multiple linear regression estimated using the Ordinary Least Squares method. The results showed that farmers had a relatively high level of knowledge of farm budgeting and gross margin analysis (grand mean = 3.40), whereas their actual use of the tools was low (mean = 2.82), indicating a knowledge–application gap. Extension support was positively rated (mean = 3.38), although follow-up support remained limited. Commercial agriculture participation was relatively high (mean = 3.41). The regression model was statistically significant (F = 47.84, p < 0.001) and explained 58.3% of the variation in commercial agriculture participation. Farm budgeting (B = 0.286, p < 0.001) and gross margin analysis (B = 0.351, p < 0.001) were positively and significantly associated with commercial agriculture participation. The study concluded that strengthening practical extension support for financial planning and profitability assessment could enhance informed and market-oriented farm decision-making among smallholder farmers. However, the adoption of CSA practices remains uneven in many rural communities, including Melani and Msobomvu villages in the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. This study investigated farmers’ awareness and understanding of climate-smart agriculture practices, identified the barriers limiting CSA adoption, and examined the socio-economic and institutional factors influencing adoption decisions. A descriptive research design within a quantitative research approach was employed. Data were collected from 158 randomly selected small-scale farmers using a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the significance of selected socio-economic and institutional factors influencing CSA adoption. The findings revealed that respondents generally possessed a good awareness and understanding of climate-smart agriculture practices, although awareness differed across technologies. Rainwater harvesting (80%), crop diversification (71%), conservation agriculture (68%), and soil conservation (68%) recorded the highest levels of awareness, whereas awareness was comparatively lower for drought-tolerant crop varieties (57%), climate information services (55%), and improved livestock management (49%). The study further identified farmer resistance to change, inadequate financial resources, and limited extension materials as the major barriers limiting CSA adoption. One-Way ANOVA indicated that financial constraints, market access, knowledge of climate-smart agriculture technologies, and extension support were statistically significant factors influencing adoption decisions ( p < 0.05).","气候智慧型农业（Climate-Smart Agriculture, CSA）被广泛认为是提高农业生产率、增强气候变化适应能力以及改善小农户粮食安全的有效途径。 ,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems",63
"W7213921129",[242,244,247
Sibonise Lufume
L. However, policy recognition has not been matched by sufficient household-level evidence on the extent and distribution of UIC adoption, the factors associated with adoption, or the relationship between UIC adoption and household food access insecurity among smallholder farming households in South Africa. Methods A quantitative, cross-sectional observational design was used among 205 smallholder farming households in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. Household food-access insecurity was measured using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS). Logistic regression, ordinary least squares regression, propensity-score matching, chi-square tests, and descriptive analysis were used to examine adoption patterns, associated factors, and food-access security outcomes. Results UIC adoption was reported by 70.2% of respondents, with pumpkin, cowpeas, and amaranth among the most widely cultivated crops. Adopting households had lower mean HFIAS scores than non-adopting households and were less likely to be classified as severely food insecure. In the OLS model, adoption was negatively associated with HFIAS scores ( β = −2.10, p = 0.007). Propensity-score matching also estimated a lower HFIAS score among adopters than among matched non-adopters (ATT = −2.15, p = 0.006). Water sufficiency, group membership, extension contact, education, and household size were associated with food-access security. Discussion The findings indicate that UIC adoption is associated with better household food-access security, but the cross-sectional observational design does not establish a causal effect. Promoting UICs may contribute to nutrition-sensitive agricultural development when accompanied by enabling conditions such as reliable water access, extension support, social capital, and productive resources.","引言 在南非，未被充分利用的本土作物（underutilised indigenous crops, UICs）日益被视为具有韧性和营养敏感性的农业系统的潜在组成部分。
"W7213867432",[279,281,284,287
Glen Themba Mendi
Jan Willem Swanepoel","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0812-2657
Siphe Zantsi","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9787-3913
Oluwasogo David Olorunfemi","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3524-4262
,"2026-09-22T23:30:07.989696Z"]
